Membership alone will never authorise every activity. General induction, equipment sign-off and the safety of your project all matter.
GREEN · General induction
Low-risk equipment may be available after general induction and activity checks. The final classification follows an assessment of the actual equipment and use.
AMBER · Equipment induction
Soldering, rework, oscilloscopes and printers may require equipment-specific training and practical sign-off, alongside appropriate controls.
RED · Controlled use
Specialist, expensive or higher-risk equipment remains staff-controlled or requires explicit authorisation. Payment does not remove this restriction.
Activities restricted from the start
Live mains experiments, high-voltage work, large lithium battery packs, unattended charging, combustion, welding and hazardous chemistry are not part of shared member bench sessions. The separately listed 800 V / 25 A supply is staff-controlled specialist equipment, not self-service member equipment.
Faults and emergencies
Members will receive emergency procedures and a way to report faults and incidents before using the lab. Unsafe equipment will be isolated. Do not use a general website enquiry for an emergency; call 999 for immediate danger.
Before your first session
General induction covers emergency procedures, safe working and lab rules. Equipment-specific training will explain the controls and instructions for the tools you use.
